It was an absolute pleasure to supply Swan 56, La Belle, currently lying in Barcelona and owned by a seasoned offshore yacht racing enthusiast, with their new Trysail and Storm Jib this month. This was to ensure she complies with offshore racing rules in time to participate in the historic 3 route race to Ibiza ‘La Ruta de la Sal’ taking place this coming weekend. A new Genoa will be following them from our Loft floor in Cowes at the end of the month so be sure to keep an eye on her performance at the Rolex Giraglia in June.

La Ruta De La Sal - Heading to the White Isle in the name of White Gold!

This historic race originated in 1846 in Barcelona during the Salt shortage and thirteen boats raced to be the first to arrive, deliver their precious cargo and collect the gold that had been promised to the first boat to succeed. It was 1989 before this event was commemorated by the Yachting community and the first Regatta took place, the route was Barcelona to Ibiza. The following year more entrants and in 1991 another route was added from Denia to Ibiza and the year after that with even more entries to this fast growing regatta, the Palma to Ibiza leg was created. Which brings us up to date.

Now 2000 sailors and a diverse fleet of yachts race to Ibiza and start the Mediterranean Race season off with a bang and a really good party!

We have 2 yachts with Ratsey and Lapthorn Sails taking part, both Swan56’s, we have Clem racing from Palma and we have La Belle racing from Barcelona and we can’t wait to see how they do. Remember, it’s the taking part that counts!

Ratsey & Lapthorn are sailmakers based in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. We specialise in racing sails, cruising sails and classic sails. Combining the latest sail making technology with hundreds of years of experience established within the loft, no boat is too big or too small.
