Cowes Classic Week - Cormorant WINNER!
There was plenty of lighthearted banter and high spirits in the Ratsey and Lapthorn loft after some excellent racing during Cowes Classic Week. Crews saw challenging conditions, postponements and cancelations due to a lack of wind through to a race in 28 knots of breeze, testing competitors to their limits.
Ratsey and Lapthorn had a head to head situation to keep us entertained with two boats of interest in the same class.
General Manager, Steve Meakin, racing his gaff yawl Cormorant and Andy Cassell, Ratsey and Lapthorn stalwart for 38 years, (para Olympic gold medallist, 50 plus years of successful yacht racing, a lot of silverware in the cabinet) sailing Cynthia with owner Peter Lucas – with both boats fully suited in Ratsey and Lapthorn sails it was certainly looking like the in loft competition within the regatta was weighted in favour of experience.
So huge congratulations go to Steve, overall winner of White Fleet on board Cormorant. A great achievement in those challenging conditions, against stiff competition, even managing to overhaul Andy on board Cynthia despite being at anchor at the time which has led to a fair amount of ribbing and quite a few laughs in loft this morning!
