The skills required to be a Ratsey and Lapthorn sailmaker have been handed down from master to apprentice by generation since 1790. Materials may have changed, designs now have the benefit of being digital, but the craft required to build a sail in the traditional way is one that is cherished at Ratsey.

There is only one standard of work in this loft and that is the very best. Thomas Ratsey 1833.
